What is a composite chart

A composite is one chart built from two — from the midpoints between the planets of two people. It is not a comparison the way synastry is. It is a chart of the relationship itself.

It is often put like this: the composite is the relationship as a third being. It speaks neither about you nor about the other person, but about what the two of you have created together — something with a character neither of you has alone.

How it differs from synastry

Synastry says what happens between two people — who draws whom, where the tension sits.

The composite says what the relationship is like in itself. Whether it is calm or stormy, whether it pulls outward among people or inward into privacy, and what it rests on.

You can have good synastry and a difficult composite — two people click, but what they create together wears them out. And the other way round.

What to keep in mind

A composite is a derived chart, not a real sky. Nobody was born at that moment. It is therefore taken as an image of the relationship, not as a fact about it.
