How does he see you? What you are to him, according to your birth charts

Sooner or later almost everyone asks it: how does he actually see me? Not what he says, but what you set off in him just by being there.

Astrology can't read his mind. It can show something quieter and often more useful: which parts of him your chart touches. The same works for anyone close to you.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You can't tell whether he admires you or is just being polite.
  • With him you feel either completely seen or completely invisible.
  • He keeps coming back, but never quite stays.
  • You'd like to know what he sees in you, without having to ask.

Why it matters so much how he sees you

The sociologist Charles Cooley called it the looking-glass self (we learn who we are partly from how others seem to see us). Everyone does it. But the closer someone is, the bigger that mirror gets. One look from the right person can lift a whole day, or ruin it.

Wanting to know how he sees you is a very human way of finding out where you stand.

Signs he sees you as someone who matters, chart or no chart

  • He remembers small things you said once, weeks ago.
  • He comes back to your words later, even when he didn't react at the time.
  • He is the same with you in front of others as when you're alone.
  • He asks what you think before deciding something that touches you.
  • He notices when something is off with you, even when you say you're fine.

Treat them as hints, not proof. They are simply the everyday places where how someone sees you tends to show.

When you can't stop wondering what he thinks

If you replay his messages and still can't tell where you stand, it may be your attachment style (the way we learned to look for closeness and safety early in life). People with an anxious attachment pay close attention to every sign, because closeness has felt uncertain before. Think of it as an old alarm that rings louder than the situation needs.

It helps to notice the difference between what he actually did and the story your mind builds around it.

Projection: when you see your own fear in his eyes

Carl Jung described projection (seeing in another person something that is really in us). Sometimes "he must think I'm too much" is less about him and more about an old voice of our own. Telling the two apart is one of the most freeing things you can learn in a relationship.

This is where astrology adds another layer. Psychology explains why the question burns. Your two birth charts show what your presence actually touches in him.

How astrology answers it

Synastry (comparing the birth charts of two people) lays your chart next to his, the positions of the planets at the moment each of you was born. For this question, two things matter most.

  • Your planets on his planets. When your Venus touches his Sun, or your Saturn touches his Moon, you play on that part of him. Some of these contacts ring easily, others ring loud and slightly out of tune.
  • Your planets in his houses, called the house overlay (where your planets fall among the twelve areas of his life). In his 7th house (partnership) you tend to be the person he measures closeness against. In his 10th (reputation), someone he wants to prove himself to. In his 12th (what stays hidden), something he can't quite put into words.

The reading in AstroJung

In Synastry, the section What you awaken opens with The chord you strike in him (or her). It reads all of this together and tells you:

  • How he sees you, and what may impress him about you
  • What you set ringing in him, through the contacts that come easily
  • Where it goes out of tune: the tense contacts, and how they show up on an ordinary day
  • How to play it in tune: concrete things you can do differently
  • Where you land in his life, when his birth time is known

Right next to it is Projections, the mirror image: what you see in him that is really your own.

Every planet through its sign

A Mars in Taurus doesn't rush. A Mercury in Scorpio asks straight into the core. The reading looks at each planet through its sign, so it describes your two charts, not a textbook.

What the reading doesn't do

It doesn't tell you what he feels, whether he loves you, or whether he'll come back. Nobody can read that from a chart. It shows which strings your chart touches in his, and that is often what you have been feeling all along.

How to begin

  • Calculate your own chart, without signing up.
  • Create an account and add him with his date, time and place of birth. If you don't know his time, it still works, only without the houses.
  • In Synastry, choose him and open The chord you strike in him.
