What is synastry
Synastry is an astrological method of comparing two horoscopes — two birth charts, the circles built from the date, time and place of birth. It looks at the dynamic, the compatibility and the potential between two people.
Put simply, synastry does not just answer “do we suit each other?” — it shows:
- where you naturally complement and support each other,
- which areas may bring misunderstandings or conflict,
- and what overall energy the two of you create together.
How it works
The two charts are laid over each other. Your planets then form angles with the other person's planets — in astrology these are called aspects. They are what tells you where two people understand each other without words, where they are drawn together, and where they get on each other's nerves.
What synastry does not say
It does not say whether a relationship will last, or whether you should be together.
It is a map, not a prediction. It shows where things come easily between you and where they take more effort — and that is something you can work with. A relationship rests on what two people do, not on what came out of a circle.
Eight areas instead of one number
A single number — “78% match” — tells you nothing. That is why the relationship is broken down into areas that work on their own:
- Partnership — how the two of you work as a team; dynamic and complementarity
- Attraction — the physical and erotic level
- Communication — whether you understand how the other thinks and speaks
- Emotional — whether you feel safe with each other
- Endurance — whether it holds once the infatuation fades
- Platonic — the depth of friendship, romance aside
- Fated — the sense that this meeting had a reason
- Plutonian — transformation and intensity; a relationship that changes both
On top of that comes friction — how much tension there is between you. Zero is not good news: a relationship without friction tends to be calm but not very alive.
So it can happen that with someone you get high depth and low attraction. That is not a mistake in the calculation — it is exactly the kind of bond that works as a friendship and not as a romance.
What you need for it
The date, time and place of birth of both people.
The time matters. Without it the houses — the twelve areas of life the circle is divided into — cannot be calculated, and synastry then says less. If you don't know the time, the app simply says so and leaves the houses out. It does not fill in what it doesn't know.
